Alfonso I Monument
The idea of erecting a monument to Alfonso I "the Battler", king of Aragon arose on the occasion of the eighth centenary of the reconquest of Zaragoza (1118). This monument was built in the Buenavista Hillock of the Primo de Rivera Park in 1925.
On the base, there is a bronze lion, symbol of the city. The upper part, treated like a mediaeval tower, acts as a pedestal for the impressive statue of the king Alfonso I (6,5m), modelled by Hose Bueno in marble from Carrara. The sculptor used te portrait of the king painted by Francisco Padilla in the 19th Century as a model.
