Fitero Spa
Fitero Spa was originally built by the Romans. Of all the leisure activities, bathing was surely the most important for the greatest number of Romans, since it was part of the daily regimen for men of all classes, and many women as well. Bathing in Roman Spain was a communal activity, conducted for the most part in public facilities that in some ways resembled modern spas or health clubs.
The Fitero Spa is one of the finest and most carefully conserved Roman baths in Spain. The Spa is also famous because in 1864 the Spanish poet Gustavo Adolfo Becquer stayed in room 314 to recover from his illness. It was precisely in that room where Becquer composed the fantastic legend of the Miserere, and others no less interesting. Another famous visitor was Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, Viceroy of New Spain (modern US states of California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming) in the 17th century.
The unique composition of sulfurous water at Fitero Spa, along with its constant temperature of 49 degrees, has made it a healing center for centuries. It offers steam baths, scotch shower, parafango, massage, underwater massage. Banos de Fitero spa is located in the South of Navarra, 3 km from Fitero village and 100 km from Pamplona and Zaragoza. We also recommend you visit the beautiful Spa natural surroundings and Fitero's Monastery, a huge building finished in 1247, and one of the oldest monastery in Spain and Portugal.
Location: Extramuros, s/n. 31593 Fitero, Navarra.
