Alcaniz is the second city in the Teruel Province, under continual industrial and commercial development and located in a privileged position. In the Plaza de Espana in the town are buildings such as the Gothic Market Hall, the Renaissance Town Hall and the Baroque collegiate church of Santa Maria la Mayor, with its large gothic tower.
The magnificent castle, now a State-run tourist hotel, dominates the square. It is very famous in Alcaniz and the surrender towns the Ruta del Tambor y el Bombo, with its thunderous Easter ritual.
