El Tarter, 2km from Soldeu, and 5km from Canillo, has grown over recent years to the point where it now seems no smaller than Soldeu; but it is quieter and there is no shortage of places to stay.

In El Tarter you will find from a teenage beginner learning to slide on the snow for the first time, to the expert freestyler throwing down a “720 Rodeo” in the ACG Snowpark El Tarter, to the racer competing on the Esparver race course or those testing skis and boards for specialist magazines.

To facilitate this coming and going of mountain enthusiasts, a new 10-seater gondola has recently been built from El Tarter car park to the Pla de Riba Escorxada. This lift provides fast, comfortable access to the Grandvalira ski resort from this sector.
