  • Bakio

Bakio is located in the historical territory of Bizkaia, in Uribe region and is placed just between Mungia and Bermeo. Burgoa, Garbola and Jata mountains surround the municipality that, at the same time, hosts Zarraga River and Ondarra brook.

With regards to religious architecture, weýd like to mention the parish church of Santa María de la Asunción and the parish church of Andra Mari, of Gothic style and placed on the foothill of Jata Mountain. Likewise, Santa Úrsula, San Cristóbal and Santa Catalina hermitages and Elexpuru and Ormatza palaces, of Baroque style, are worth mentioning.

Once visited the cultural heritage of this coastal municipality, weýll arrive in the three museums in Bakio: Eneperi ethnographic museum, Gorrondona Txakoli Museum (txakoli is a kind of white wine typical of the Basque Country) and Zintziri Errota Museum, located in the homonym restaurant and showing different specialities.

The coastal zone in Bakio is a privileged spot, surrounded by beaches, cliffs, creeks and walks. The main one is San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, protected biotope, which shocks the visitor with its location on the sea. Askada and Jata viewpoints offer exceptional views of Bakio.

Celebrations in Bakio begin on March 19, San José, when the new txakoli vintage is launched. On the other hand, the festival of Andra Mari takes place on August 15; finally, the patron saint festival takes place at the end of August, consecrated to San Juan Dolozak.
