Gran Hotel Domine
The Gran Hotel Domine, facing the Guggenheim Museum, is Bilbao’ first 5 star and the city’s pride. The Gran Hotel Domine expresses a contemporary concept that avoids ostentation and promotes fun. The project is infected by its neighbour, the Guggenheim’s, activity and offers a space that contains a selection of furniture that represents the most emblematic design from the 20th century. Its singularity consists in the application of a concept of integral design, of great, formal coherence, carried out by Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas with their respective teams. Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao isn’t only a hotel to stay at, but a colourist microcosmos that opens its door to whoever wishes to get close to it and have a coffee, a drink or eat in its restaurant.
The lobby flooded with interior light is one of the elements that singularises the Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao. On entering the visitor encounters a sculptural piece by Mariscal, the Fossil Cypress, that occupies the entire verticality of the building, from the floor to the skylight that crowns the terrace. The sculpture is 26 metres in height, two and a half in diameter and 90 tonnes in weight. A piece that recreates an interior journey that compensates for the absence of views from the interior rooms.
The Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao includes 131 rooms and 14 suites, spread over 5 floors in the building. A suite can be found on every floor and another 10 on the fifth, six of them with great views of the Guggenheim. Special care has been put into each room interior to have a personalised and distinguished detail from the rest. Its modern equipment that includes an interactive television and a stereo, its use and aesthetics are combined to keep a perfect balance.
Rooms have splendid views of the Guggenheim, a very comfortable bed, the Domine lamps for reading with good light, the seats by Mariscal, the interactive t.v., a stereo and a lot of tranquillity. Behind glass that visually communicates the bathroom, the Phillipe Starck bath, the coating of Jurassic stone by Solnhofen, the Vola sink by Arne Jacobsen and a lot of space.
