Axiat has a lovely 13th century Romanesque Church that has been featured in a double page spread in the travel section of The Independant. The road through Axiat is a medieval pilgrimage road, the Route de Corniche which was also regularly used by the Cathar priests or 'bonhomes' to administer to many of the villages in the region.
